What is SFH Friends of the School?
We are a group of parents, helpers and staff whose aim is to bring together the school, children, parents and the community to have fun and at the same time raise funds for the school, which is achieved by helping at and holding events for children and adults alike, and are enjoyed by all who come along.
We are a voluntary organisation and an association of which ALL parents and guardians of children attending the school (nursery and primary) as well as its teaching staff, are effectively members. Members are invited to attend meetings, vote on proposals and make suggestions for spending or raising funds.
The main objective of the Association is, in partnership with the school and parents, to enhance the education and well-being of pupils by providing resources and activities for the children and provide a link to parents. Friends of Sir Francis Hill School (FOS) play an extremely important role in the life of the school and assist it in a number of ways:
- Fundraising activities for the school
- Tea and coffee mornings - Promoting links with parents
- Helping in classes - Cooking and gardening
- Second hand school uniform sales
- Support from and for the wider community
- Organising events
Delivering on this broad remit of activities is only possible through the commitment and enthusiasm of our members (see below for list of members) and great band of volunteers, who all work tirelessly in support of the school.
Last year we raised over £4600 and provided the following as a result:
- Funding a pantomime at Christmas, giving every child in school the opportunity to see magical theatre!
- Providing all new children in Reception with a book bag
- Renovation of outside area to create a 'memory garden', complete with restored memorial benches
- Running the Year 6 prom
- Organising the school summer fair, providing entertainment and cakes
- Organising various other family events throughout the year e.g. Chocolate Bingo
- Providing funding for NLP4Kids
Over the years we have also bought a new sound system, scooter pods, new rugs for Foundation Stage classrooms after the flood and new ‘rainy day playtime’ boxes for classrooms. Each class chose what they would like to play with during rainy playtimes and we’ve provided the boxes of toys and games for each class.
Recently we’ve been painting some of the playground furniture to brighten it all up but we’re looking forward to adding some new.
We love to organise coffee mornings, clothes sales, chocolate bingo evenings and many other events to try and raise funds. We accept donations of cakes for coffee mornings, prizes for tombolas and raffles, pre-loved school clothes.

Fancy getting involved?
Please, please do! FOS always welcomes and encourages new members, to ensure there is a breadth of representative opinions from all year groups and also to capitalise on the talents, skill sets and experience of our parents and staff.
Our committee is about much, much more than just fundraising. The group exists to provide closer links between home and school, and it is an excellent way to bring staff, parents and friends together socially in support of the school, working towards a common goal. Our meetings are open to everyone, so why not come along to one and listen to the range of topics being discussed – you can contribute as much or as little as you wish and choose to get involved as much or as little as you wish. The meetings are informal and relaxed. Dates of forthcoming meetings will be posted on this page.
If you would like any other information regarding FOS, are interested in joining the committee or have suggestions or ideas about fund-raising, please do not hesitate to contact any of the FOS members.
We look forward to your support over the coming year.
