Today we're looking at suffixes.

A suffix is a group of letters that goes at the end of a word.

We're going to look at what happens to a verb when we add -ing or -ed.

We take our root word (our verb) and we add the suffix e.g.

roll + ing = rolling

roll + ed = rolled

Look at the root words in the list below and add -ing. What word does it make?

Next, start with the root word and add -ed. What word does it make this time?

Verbs ending in -ing mean they are happening now, in the present tense e.g. I am typing.

Verbs ending in -ed mean they have already happened e.g. I typed.
